Colorado Art Collection

As I said in my last blog, I’ve had a hankering lately for doing some Colorado specific pieces. I finished off the holiday with 'Atomic Ski Bunny' and I love how it turned out. Before Thanksgiving I created a piece based on the iconic “Colorado Spaceship House”. Anyone who's ever driven up to the mountains on I-70 from Denver knows exactly where this house is. The Sculptured House, also known as the Sleeper House, is a distinctive elliptical curved house, built on Genesee Mountain in 1963 by architect Charles Deaton. It has been featured in many movies and television shows, but most notably in the 1973 Woody Allen sci-fi comedy movie “Sleeper”. It's always been a personal fav of mine!

My most recent piece is "Breckenridge Snow Bunnies". I have recently been inspired to create some art that reminds me of my childhood and some of my favorite spots in Colorado. Breckenridge is actually the first place I ever went skiing when I was in the 4th grade. I ended up falling pretty bad on a blue slope from going too fast and not being able to stop. Ultimately, I fully wrecked and wound up in crutches, from a sprained ankle.

My wife grew up Breckenridge, so it definitely holds a special place in our hearts. When we were in high school (yes, my wife and I are high school sweethearts) we used to rent a condo in Breckenridge every spring break with friends and would spend the week skiing and, lets be honest, partying too hard. Lots of great memories! Breckenridge is by far, one of our most favorite places to visit and skiing in Breck is always an absolute dream. If you ever get the chance, go visit!
